Wall painting tips - for a fresh and clean home
A fresh coat of paint adds new life and beauty to rooms. Wall painting is detailed and crafty work that required patience and dexterity. However, hiring professional painters is expensive and inconvenient as they choose their own work hours. Painting yourself is a challenging idea. Here are some suggested standardized techniques to begin with painting your walls for a beautiful and lovely home!
Painting the walls begins with choosing the right equipment. Novice painters are advised to begin with rollers for the wide expanse of the walls and move on to brushes later for painting tight spots, corners, and crevices. Painting with brushes helps to put on a thick coat for more protection, but the coatings can be slightly uneven, whereas rollers help apply a thinner coat that is more even.
The paintbrushes and rollers should be first dipped in the appropriate thinner before using the actual paint. The paint should not drip or fall from the tools. Large areas such as the wide portions of walls need an 8-10 inch long roller, whereas a paintbrush or a 5-inch roller shall work the best for corners of windows and doors and doorways. Also, the paint should be chosen keeping in mind the painting speed. Fast-drying paint often requires quick strokes, but slow drying paint may take up days to dry up later. Outside walls facing streets require good waterproof, dust-resistant paint for durability and protection, whereas inside rooms can be painted with simple distemper.
Painting wide portions can be started by painting random shapes or from top to bottom or side to side across the walls. One should start from one end and move towards the other to avoid changing the handle of the tool being used. The entire section should be finished in one go so that the paint does not dry up along edges, as this creates ridges. Once a whole section is finished, then the missed spots and areas can be covered up. If one is left-handed, it is preferred to start from the left-handed corner of the room and vice versa for left handed painters. For high areas, one can use an extension for the rollers instead of using a step-ladder.
For painting the walls along ceilings, doors or windows, the cutting technique should be used. In this type of method, painting is done along the edges first, along the right angles, and then the main portion of the wall. Zigzag and cross strokes are easy and work well for uniform coating.
Painting patterns and designs requires more energy and skill. Choosing the right color combination is the key to a beautiful look. Lighting in rooms should be taken into account while choosing the colors.
