Surviving Bed Rest While Pregnant

Here are 5 ways to help pass the time and get through pregnancy-related bed rest.

1. Have a good support system. Keep family and friends close as this can be a lonely time.  You will need someone there for you to do the things you can't like cooking, cleaning, and anything around the house that would require you to be on your feet. Invite friends over to watch movies or play board games to beat boredom.

2. Prepare for your baby online. Sign up for special ""mommy offers"" like coupons for baby products, samples, and information.  You may feel stressed about not being able to get your shopping done. You can find anything you need for your baby online and have it delivered to your home. You can also register for a baby shower at many stores online.

3. Take up that hobby you always thought about trying.  Learn how to knit, scrapbook, or research a topic that you are curious about. Keep your brain busy and always have something to do.  You can even learn how to create clothes or toys for your baby.

4. Do bed rest exercises.  To keep from getting too stiff or weak, many hospitals can teach you exercises you can do from your bed. Many women will do them just to avoid boredom. Make sure they are approved by your doctor first.

5. Stay positive.  You can be proud to know that while you lay in bed feeling somewhat useless, you are giving your baby a chance to grow and be born healthy and happy. Some women may have problems with anxiety and worsening depression.  Know that is OK to ask for help.  Find ways to stay excited like tracking the progress of your growing baby by researching weekly developments.

Use these tips and hang in there! It will all be worth it when you hold your little one in your arms for the first time.
