The Purpose of Life
Have you ever wondered the purpose of our lives? We do the same things everyday without pausing to think about why we do them. Is the goal of human life just to eat, survive, reproduce and then finally die? Each day so many new births happen and so many of us die. Newborns will do the same things as the departed have already done. So why this circle of birth and death?
Well, to understand the true meaning of life one needs to have an open mind and start questioning things around us. A good reference for such queries is religious scriptures. Most scriptures answer these questions about life. Without going into names, I will summarize some of the answers these religious books provide.
A human being is not just body but also something extremely sacred and pure; the soul. The soul never dies.
It is only the body that wears out and the soul in its next re-incarnation takes another bodily form. Even in a single life span, the soul changes many bodies. The body of a child, the body of a teenager that of an adult and finally, it takes the form of an old man before changing itself altogether into a new birth.
The soul watches and stores all experiences in a life span. That leads to its development and evolution, as it learns from these experiences of life. The human being of today is much more evolved than his ancestor was a thousand years ago. This evolution and learning from experience continues. As the human soul becomes more evolved over many births, it starts learning about finer emotions like love, compassion, and non-violence. It begins to shed its baser instincts of survival, hatred, and violence. It starts to understand the folly of its ways and yearns for something higher, something beyond the material possessions and daily stimulations.
At this point, the soul starts looking for God. It realizes that worldly possessions can no longer satisfy its needs. It then takes on the spiritual journey, like Buddha did so many years ago. And finally the soul finds God, becomes one with HIM and becomes free from the cycle of birth and death.
So, realize the higher purpose behind life. It is not about survival and possessing materialistic things like cars, big houses, and millions of dollars but to evolve and finally become one with God.
