Disney Online Worlds - Pixie Hollow

Pixie Hollow is a multi-player web-based video game, based on the Disney Fairies franchise.  Disney Fairies has two continuities, the direct-to-video CGI animated films, and a book series.  The game setting is a combination of elements from both, with the main fairy characters being from the films, and several shops and minor characters being from the books.

The setting is that of Pixie Hollow, the home of the Fairies on the island of Neverland, adapted from the Disney classic film Peter Pan, itself adapted from the play and novel by James Barrie.

When you begin the game, you create your own fairy character.  You can choose the appearance, hair color/style, and name from an available list.  Male fairies are called “sparrow men.”

Each fairy character chooses one of the five main talents from the films, and by doing so you automatically select one of the five main character fairies to be your mentor fairy.  Tinker Bell is a Tinker talent, Irridessa is a Light talent, Silvermist a Water talent, Rosetta a Garden talent, and Fawn is an Animal talent.  You will use the “chat” function to talk to your mentor for the introduction to the shared world of Pixie Hollow, and they will give you quests which earn points towards your own Talent Skills.

There are many things to do in Pixie Hollow.  The world is made up of different meadows, and each meadow may contain a game, one or more shops, or the home of the main character fairies.

In each meadow are ingredients such as raspberries or maple leaves; collecting these functions as the game’s currency and also as raw materials for crafting objects and clothing.

Each fairy has a “home” that may be decorated with purchased and crafted objects.  Fairies may also select an “Animal Friend” that follows them around and can learn tricks.  Animal companions must be fed and played with, and cared for if sick.

One of the main attractions to Pixie Hollow is its shared environment.  As you fly around the virtual world, you will see the avatars of other players, and can chat with them, add them to your friend list, and invite them to your home for “parties” where special decorations and games are available.

The chat functionality is child-safe; words must be from an approved yet robust list, to prevent profanity or sharing of personal information.

Membership is required for many of the games advanced features like purchasing new clothing, and traveling to the Wilderness area to use Talent Skills.  The price is $5.95 per month, with discounts available for longer terms.
