Our Trip to Foxwood Inn in Ghent, West Virginia

My family just went on a trip to Ghent, West Virginia. We stayed at the Foxwood Inn Bed & Breakfast. Foxwood is a 12000 square foot lodge with 8 bedrooms. While we were there we took the opportunity to visit Winterplace Ski Resort.

As we began the trip, I asked everyone, “Well, are you ready for an adventure?”

Everyone said, yes and off we went.  We expected to see some snow on this trip.  However, we did not expect to see seven-foot-high snowdrifts.  Even before our car left the driveway, we knew it was going to be a challenge to get to our destination. My cousin, Erica called me and said, “Well, if you haven’t left yet, you might as well stay home because we are not going to get to go this year!” What? We had been planning this for a whole year, we had to go.  So off we went anyway.  When we got there the road to the inn was so bad that we had to take an alternate route. Luckily, we had been smart enough to rent an all-wheel drive vehicle instead of trying to drive our van.  As we traveled over the snow-covered roads, my children made sounds like the screams on a roller-coaster ride as we went winding around the curvy roads, first uphill and then downhill. Along the way, we saw the wildlife around us trying to find something to eat.  They included deer, wild turkeys and horses.

When we finally arrived at the inn, the rest of the family was already there playing a the card game, “Uno Attack” and eating hotdogs with homemade chili. I knew we were going to have one of the best times of our life! The next day we went to Winterplace Ski Resort, where some of us went skiing and others of us went snow tubing. The resort was a winter wonderland. A mist had settled in the air that appeared to be one of a long winter storm that had settled into the valley at the base of the mountain.

When we got back to Foxwood Inn, we ate hot chicken stew and then sat by the fireplace and made “S’mores”. It was just perfect!

The next day, we packed up all of our bags after breakfast and headed back to North Carolina not believing the amount of snow we had just seen.  It was the most snow I have ever seen in one place at one time! There was already had about 5 inches when we arrived in Ghent and it had snowed about 3 more inches everyday we were there for 3 days.

The overall experience was one of excitement and joy and we cannot wait to go back again next year.  My family will never forget the fun we had or all of that snow they saw! If you have never been, it would be a great trip for you and your family to go on as well.
