Equipment When Playing Tennis

Tennis is a very exciting and competitive game known all over the world. Thanks to the Williams sisters and Anna Kournikova with their sexy and attention-grabbing tennis outfits, the sport is now more popular and tennis stars are also celebrities in their own rights by getting endorsements across major industries.

The sport requires agility, focus and body strength. For professional athletes, it is a sport that brings out the best in them and is the measure of their success. For enthusiasts, it is a fun sport, a way to de-stress and a good over-all physical exercise.

Throughout the years, while the basic equipment and apparel has not changed, there are now changes and developments with the design and material of the equipments because of the latest technology and an increased understanding of the sport and the needs of its player.

  • Racquets – A major equipment in tennis, a racquet or racket can actually determine the strength of your game. Among other things, you must first know the power and shock absorption qualities of the racquet you are purchasing. Determine the material composition and the rigidness or stiffness of the strings if it is suited to you. Another important thing to know is the balance and weight of your racquet - because of the fast movements you would do, the racquet should help you and not be a hindrance or bring you down as you move about in the court.
  • Strings – A good string is one that absorbs shock as the repeated swings might cause harm to your arm. A string that is too rigid or one that is too loose will not only make you perform poorly but it can also cause injury almost instantaneously.
  • Shoes – Only use tennis shoes because they are the ones that are perfectly designed with the proper cushioning required when playing the sport. Its soles are completely different from other running shoes, and its grip is different as well. These are the ones designed to prevent injuries because its material will prevent you from slipping in the court (tennis courts are not made of solid concrete or wood as opposed to other sports).
  • Balls – A good tennis ball that bounces well against racquets and is durable makes for a good game.

All sports require specific types of equipment, including clothing. The proper tennis clothing is designed for comfort and performance so make sure you wear them as well. These equipment are necessary not just for the game to be played correctly but these equipment are required also for the safety of the players. There are different brands available and it is important not just to compare based on price, but on quality as well. It is far better to get a good quality tennis shoe than purchase an inexpensive one and get a sprained ankle or injured foot. Remember that in most cases, sports equipment are also investments – investments to play the game well, and investments to protect the player from injuries.
