Appearance is a very important thing when going out on dates whether you are a man or a woman.  They say that it is hard enough dressing up for yourself but when you are on a date, you are actually dressing up for two.  So what do daters really need to know about clothing and what are the things that need to be avoided in order to have a successful night on the town?

1.    Never dress too formal.  Unless you are going to the opera, casual clothes will suffice.  There is really no need to look too good or too structured especially if you are only going out for a pizza or a very violent slasher movie. 

2.    Pick out something comfortable.  There is nothing wrong with looking great as long as you do not sacrifice comfort.  Dressing weather appropriate would be in your best interest especially if your date is outdoors.  For women, picking out the right pair of shoes for a date is imperative especially if there is going to be walking.  For men on the other hand, wearing extremely expensive Italian loafers that are not made for walking would be a mistake.

3.    Mix and Match- If you already have a lot of clothes in your closet, there is no need to buy more just for one date.  You can take several simple pieces of clothing and turn them into one great looking outfit.  It is all about personal style and being comfortable with what you are wearing.

4.    Invest in a plain black shirt or that little black dress.  For men, there is nothing better than to have that black shirt for dates for which they do not have much time to prepare.  For women on the other hand, there are so many uses for that little black dress because it can be worn on formal as well as casual dates.

5.    Do not be afraid to try on a different look.  Donning the same style for years might be safe but when you start dating, it might become a little to safe that you end up looking too plain.  You should entertain the possibility of being a more adventurous dresser and perhaps even find a look that is much better and so much more interesting.

One thing that you should not forget when dating is to not put too much premium on looks and dressing up.  However, it is also a requirement to look presentable and neat.  In the end,  It is all about balance and being self assured.
