Safety First For Your Child’s Car Seat
According to statistics, flying is much safer than driving. With more and more people hitting the road each year, we cannot say that all drivers are responsible and safety-conscious individuals. Thanks to car accessories and other developments, the safety of you and your family may be enhanced by accessories and car parts that can protect you in cases of emergency.
Car seats have been around for the past years and people really value the security and comfort that it brings.
Car seats may be installed by the car owner himself. It is therefore crucial that the car seat be installed properly – this is now to say that the safety of your child is in your hands, even before you hit the gas pedal. To ensure that your car seat will really live up to its purpose, here are some things you can do.
- Make sure to read and follow the instructions in the car manual and car seat installation seat before proceeding. If something is unclear or if a part is missing, contact the manufacturer. Do not attempt to finish the installation; it is better to stop with the installation and do everything all at once instead of re-assembling later on (which might even damage parts of the car seat).
- For a forward-facing seat, push the car seat to ensure that it is flat at the bottom and at the back. By doing so, the car seat will be positioned as stable and as sturdy as possible.
- Check if the seat belt is inserted through the correct belt slots and pull it tightly. After you buckle it, give it a quick tug to make sure that it is tight and fits just right.
- Test it and try to tip the car seat sideways or forward. If it doesn’t move in any direction, then your installation is successful. If it moves an inch or more when you tip it, tighten the belt a little more. This will ensure that should anything happen, the car seat will be able to hold up.
- Conduct the tests without your child in the car seat. Tugging the belt or tipping the seat as it is should be enough to gauge if the seat is safe enough. Do not attempt to tip the seat when the child is in the car.
The manufacture of car seats in the recent years have improved because of modern technology and better material. Your installation should complement this safety precaution even more. While there are different brands and even cute character designs that are available, choose one because of the durability and quality, and not just the external design. Safety is the main reason why people purchase car seats, and not because of anything else.
But also remember that no car seat will be able to stand up against wreckless and offensive driving. Be responsible enough that even if a car seat is installed, you should always be on the defensive against aggressive car drivers.
