Writing an Effective Business Blog

Creating a blog for business use is an often under utilized tool. Having an effective blog can bring in a whole new dimension to your business.  The ability to communicate within your company or share ideas and information with your clients is greatly enhanced with a well thought out blog.

When you commit to making a blog you need to do just that. Commit. Nothing is more frustrating to a consumer than to have incomplete blogs or sporadic thoughts in your blogs.

One way to make sure you are staying committed is to follow the 3 step process. The first step is your audience. This encompasses so much. You need to know your audience and the audience you want to reach. Take time to know their needs and desires.

Once you know your audience you can then establish your purpose. What is your goal? Do you want to just let those inside your company know what’s going on or do you want to drive others outside into it? One thing to always keep in mind when establishing a purpose is to make sure you have enough to keep the blog going as long as you need it. If you are using it just to put a short summary or let potential clients know about your business, a simple website will do.

Once you have established your audience, and your purpose, you must look at your scope. Make sure that you build your blog. Don’t start at the end and work to the beginning. It’s important to make sure that your audience does not get lost. Start basic and work your way up. Your audience may use this blog as an expert voice when making decisions. If it is not organized and clear in its scope you will lose them quickly.

There are many things you can do with your blog. The options grow almost daily. You can supply customer service, news, recruit, replace weekly newsletters, and more. Take time to organize and use the three step process. Your blog will be like the sign in front of your building. People will judge you and your service based on how well organized and informative it is.

Here are some basic rules you may want to consider:

-Always use proper grammar and watch your spelling.

-Don’t plagiarize. Using material that is not yours may be unethical. Always give credit where it is due.

-Keep with your topic to accomplish your goal. A blog that is a shot gun of topics may be hard for your audience to keep up with.

-Have a clear end in site. This will keep you from chasing rabbit trails.

Blogging has become an important part of the business world today. Take a long look at your business and plug in the three step process and see your business grow. An effective blog will be something your clients and your employees will appreciate as long as you do your part to provide a solid foundation for it to grow.
