Important Things About Basket Weaving

Basket weaving can be done from different kinds of materials such as reed, cane, wicker etc. The first step is to fold the appropriate material by immersing in medium hot water. The material can be of the same color or can be multi colored for making different forms. Handles and minute designs will be present in the designer baskets.

Some of the most important items for basket weaving include a tub or a container in order to immerse the wicker or cane or reed in medium hot water, few wire clippers that can be operated through hand for the purpose of trimming, rags, used towels and cloth for covering the floor when the water spits out onto the floor. Clothespins are an additional requirement. While weaving the baskets, the weaver needs to be patient.

The wicker or reed or cane must be immersed in a container or tub that is filled with medium hot water for easy arrangement. Before dripping the water, the floor must be covered using used towels or plastic coverings close to the tub or the container to prevent the water spitting on the floor. The wicker should not be disturbed till it is ready for utilization. After it becomes ready, additional amounts of water should be removed from the wicker or reed or cane by patting it gently.

If a person is making his/her first attempt to weave the baskets, then using the kit of basket weaving that is available especially for beginners will be very helpful. This kit will have all the necessary materials and proper directions for weaving the baskets along with the photos.

The first step of basket weaving is to insert the spokes into the holes of the wooden material. The holes must be created previously in the wooden material by using a puncher above one inch from the lower part. The holes should be made in a uniform manner. A lengthy wicker must be chosen and kept in between the spokes. Both the spokes must be weaved properly. After weaving the baskets, they should be immersed in water to make it easily arrangeable. If the basket is very big, then only half of the basket should be immersed in the water that contains the extra spoke regions.

The basket should be made to dry before using it. If the basket contains any protruding borders, then they must be clipped properly. The cuts should not be made very near to the region in between the spokes.
